Big Sister

We are so excited to announce that Rebekah's going to be a big sister! We found out just four days after Rebekah's birthday that I'm expecting again. But we've sort of waited to tell everyone because we were trying to get our families together to tell them first. Well, we still ended up having to tell one side and then the other, but we finally did, so now I get to tell you!

Anyway, I've decided to go with a midwife this time around. My awesome chiropracter, Dr. Cindy and another lady named Ann, opened a birthing center last summer, and I've heard so many good things about it. (Not to mention, we didn't feel like we were under the best care when I was pregnant with Bekah) We went for our first visit with Ann on Wednesday morning, and we are scheduled to confirm a due date in two weeks when we get our first sonogram. But by my calculations, I should be due around the last week of November or the first week of December. (I will update the ticker I've created as soon as I know something different) Boy, are things going to change around here!

So far, so good!

Well, this week has turned out to be pretty good. Rebekah has gone all week (since that last time on Monday) without nursing, and she's also slept better(who would've guessed?) than before. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night she slept straight through the night. But then on Thursday night, she woke up in the middle of the night a few times and it was tough to get her back down. Last night (Friday) she only woke up once and she went straight back to sleep after I changed her diaper. Every night has gotten better with the initial part of getting her to go to sleep, though. Tonight she didn't even cry! So for the most part, so far, so good! (And for those of you who know what the mom experiences physically, I'm not hurting anymore either! Which is of course a relief!) Thanks for your prayers!

In other Bekah news, bath time has become more fun for her lately. She has become so curious with the water and she's been wanting to play more. Tonight, she kept trying to "grab" the water and hold it. She'd stick her hand in the water and make a fist and bring it up out of the water to see if she got it or not, opening her hand, and then trying again when she realized she "dropped" it. She played with the cup I use to rinse her hair. I put water in it, and she held it with both hands and started shaking it up and down, only to get water all in her face. I couldn't help but laugh when she closed her eyes and got choked up a little and then she joined me laughing. It was so funny! So then of course, she kept doing it to be funny. She also threw all her toys out of the tub and thought that was funny too. When it was time to let the water go, she wanted to play with the plug and she waved "bye bye" to the water. I took a few pictures because she was enjoying it so much, and then she didn't want me to take her out of the tub - even without the water! Anyway, here are the pictures of my little clown at the end of her fun!

Weaning Rebekah

Okay, for those of you who think that talk about breastfeeding is TMI, stop reading right now. Haha! (Don't worry, I won't get too graphic or anything!)

But, for those who want to know, today was a successful day. Just to give you a bit of background, I have been trying to wean Rebekah for about a month or so now. I haven't been too hard core about it, just trying to get her to adjust. So for a while we only skipped one or two meals and then I'd nurse her to sleep and whenever she just got so cranky we couldn't stand it. She's been doing so well with trying new foods and eating from our plate (the girl eats like she's starved!), so it's easy during the day because she's distracted by so many new and yummy foods. But when it comes to nap and bedtime, it's been harder. So I've given into that lately and we've skipped all normal meals and I've nursed right before she sleeps and when she wakes up during the night (no, she still doesn't sleep thru the night!).

Well last night, I nursed Rebekah as usual and put her to bed. She slept through the night (okay so she does it sometimes) and then when she woke up this morning, I gave her breakfast and didn't nurse her. After running errands all morning, she was exhausted, so I fed her lunch and a snack, and put her to bed for naptime... without nursing! Yay! We also made it until bedtime. This time, I could tell she wanted to, but I thought, 'Hey I'm on a roll, why give in now?' So I changed her diaper and put her to bed. Well she was not happy about it. I talked to her and sang to her, and about 30 minutes or more of crying later, she fell asleep. I was so excited that I did it! Well, about 2 minutes later, we heard her crying again. This time I let her cry without me in there for a few minutes. Then I went back and started over again, singing to her and praying over her, and just patting her back. I even picked her up once to prove that I loved her and would comfort her, just not how she wanted! This went on for some time, and then I finally left the room, frustrated and wanting to give in to my poor baby. But I could tell she was tired. So, I talked to Jason for a little while (thank the Lord he was actually off work today!) and then I came in to the office to check my email. It took another good while, but she finally fell asleep, exhausted from crying. Overall though, it was a successful day and we're going on over 24 hrs of no nursing!

From what I hear, this is just a normal transition and it's normal for babies to cry a lot while learning how to self soothe without breastfeeding. I mean, it's all she's ever known for the whole year she's been alive, so why should she understand that I won't give in? Still, it's frustrating, and I can't wait for it to be over. Not to mention, I hate hearing her cry until she sobs. And she won't take a pacifier, blankie, etc to help soothe herself! So, hopefully this won't last too long, and she will be a quick learner. If anyone has advice from experience, I would love to know what helped you get through it! And to anyone reading this, please just pray that this would be an easy transition!! =)

Oh and sorry but no pictures for this post! Lol!

Enjoying the weather and Daddy's drums

Yesterday we took a walk around our neighborhood to enjoy the beautiful weather. We took a few pictures before we left.

Then today while I was making lunch, Jason taught Rebekah how to tune his drums and how to hit them. She really liked holding the stick and thought she'd see what it tasted like!

The Lord's Prayer

I found these videos and thought they were too cute! (You might have to go to youtube to see them better.)

Big Girl

Thursday Rebekah started drinking from a sippy cup all by herself! Yes, we have been working on if for a while, and she has never wanted a cup or a bottle - she's always just thrown them at us which makes for lots of fun! Anyway, I guess she turned one and thought it was time to be a big girl. She also cut her other top front tooth on Wednesday, giving her a total of 5 toothies! If you look closely on these pictures you can sort of see them all. You might have to click on them to make them bigger. Then on Friday we took her to the doctor for her one year check up, and much to our surprise she hasn't gained much of anything in weight since her 10 month check up. The doctor is not worried because she's getting taller and her head is growing, too. He says that she's just not going to be a very big kid, but that everything looks great. We just can't believe it though, because she's been eating us out of the house already with her appetite! She loves green beans and can eat through a whole small can of them in like 5 minutes flat, and she eats like we never feed her! Anyway, we are proud of our little munchkin for being a big girl, even if she doesn't look like one! =)

Birthday Girl

Rebekah's 1st birthday party was so much fun! We had a great turnout and she was so cute in her little pink and white tutu and pink bow. I think she ended up with 30+ new books, so we have definitely started her a great book collection. Anyway, a family member agreed to take pictures with his awesome camera since he does photography on the side and I am still waiting on those to be put on a cd for us so I can post them on here. Until then, here are some that Jason's mom took with her camera and a few from mine. I promise there will be more to come! (Yes, we took LOTS of pictures!)

decorations : I made the Happy Birthday banner that's hanging out of book cutouts.

Rebekah's Nana (Denise's Mom) decorates a poster with pictures from throughout the year for every grandkid for his birthday. She coordinates them with whatever theme they are going with for their birthday party. She was so excited to get to do Rebekah's with books! She is so creative!
